Duties of a soldier in this type of event not only include; participation in the battle tactics and firing of weapons, but he should also be expected to shout insults at the enemy, temporarily assist a wounded comrade, fall wounded or dead. Adult campfollowers may be allowed to bandage the wounded and remove them from the field, retrieve dropped accoutrements, offer the men water or wet compresses, stand behind the lines assisting as the wounded are removed, act agitated and concerned. Older male followers may participate as runners or flag bearers when authorized by the Captain.
There are two types of encampments, temporary and overnight. The latter is basically the same, except for a longer period of time and the opportunity to experience 18th century life non-stop. Encampments include the setting up of tents and camp gear, laying out personal equipment and generally portraying life in an 18th century camp as authentically as possible. There is no shortage of activities at this type of event be it one or more days.
